Chicago Man Dies in South LA Hit-and-Run; Reward of $50,000 for Information
$50,000 Reward Offered in Hit-and-Run Death of Chicago Cubs Fan
LOS ANGELES – Authorities are seeking assistance from the public in identifying the driver responsible for a hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of 65-year-old Jose Melesio, a resident of Chicago. Melesio was struck and killed early on April 27 while he was visiting Los Angeles for a baseball series between the Dodgers and Cubs.
The collision occurred around 3:10 a.m. near Figueroa Street and 75th Street. According to investigators, Melesio was walking along Figueroa Street when he was hit by a silver four-door sedan traveling northbound. Surveillance footage released by the Los Angeles Police Department shows that the suspect vehicle did not slow down for Melesio, which resulted in a devastating impact that left him deceased at the scene.
Melesio’s family, alongside LAPD officials, held a news conference on Thursday, where they expressed their grief and described Melesio as “good-natured.” They underscored the profound emotional toll his sudden death has taken on their family back in Chicago. LAPD commanders emphasized the need for witnesses to come forward, highlighting that the driver did not attempt to aid Melesio or stop after the collision.
In an effort to bring the driver to justice, a reward of $50,000 is being offered for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction. Investigators encourage anyone who recognizes the vehicle from the released footage to contact the South Traffic Division.
The tragic incident not only disrupted the life of an individual but also left an indelible mark on his family who are now facing an unexpected grief during what should have been a joyful visit.
