3.3 Magnitude Earthquake Rattles Redlands Community
Magnitude-3.3 Earthquake Strikes Redlands Early Friday Morning
A preliminary magnitude-3.3 earthquake was recorded in Redlands early Friday morning, sending tremors felt by nearby residents.
Although the shaking was mild, its impact varied based on several factors, including the earthquake’s magnitude, the distance from the epicenter, and local soil conditions. Typically, individuals closer to the epicenter are more likely to feel the tremors, and loose soil can amplify the shaking effects.
Earthquakes can sometimes be followed by aftershocks, which are smaller quakes occurring in the same area. A notable historical example is the 2011 magnitude-9.1 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, which was preceded by a magnitude-7.3 foreshock just two days prior. Although aftershocks decrease over time, they can persist for extended periods, from days to even years.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of their surroundings and to prepare accordingly, especially during seismic events.
