LaKeith Stanfield Takes Over as Dennis Rodman in Lionsgate’s ’48 Hours in Vegas’ After Jonathan Majors Steps Down
Dennis Rodman’s Las Vegas Adventure to Be Dramatized in Upcoming Film Starring LaKeith Stanfield
Las Vegas is set to become the backdrop for a new film starring LaKeith Stanfield, inspired by basketball icon Dennis Rodman’s infamous escapade during the 1998 NBA Finals. Nearly two years after Jonathan Majors was dropped from the project and Lionsgate stepped away, the studio is now back on board, with Stanfield slated to portray the former Chicago Bulls forward. The film will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jordan VanDina.
Titled 48 Hours in Vegas, the film aims to unveil the untold story of Rodman’s whirlwind trip to Sin City, showcasing both the chaos and absurdity embedded within those two days.
“I’m genuinely excited to help create an exhilarating, joyful work that both honors and thoughtfully examines the legacy of Rodman and fellow trailblazers,” Stanfield expressed in a statement. He emphasized the importance of celebrating individuals who have charted their own paths despite obstacles.
Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, shared her enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Dennis Rodman is more than a basketball player, more than a personality—he’s an entire cultural phenomenon. His bold style and physical presence, combined with an iconic persona, created a larger-than-life impact on and off the court. There’ll never be another like him. LaKeith and the incredibly talented team on this film will bring the legend to life in this most extraordinarily unbelievable story.”
The film will be produced by Lord Miller’s Phil Lord, Chris Miller, and Aditya Sood, while executive producers include Rodman himself, along with Ari Lubet and Lucy Kitada. Nikki Baida will serve as co-producer.
Oversight for Lionsgate will be managed by Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi, with Robert Melnik negotiating studio deals. Stanfield’s representation includes CAA, Stark Management, and Ginsburg Daniels Kallis, while Famuyiwa is represented by WME and Oasis Media Group, among others.
