Prime Video Announces New Drama ‘The Second Lady’ From Kevin Williamson and Writer Jessica Sharzer
Title: Prime Video Develops Action/Thriller Series ‘The Second Lady’
Prime Video has announced the development of The Second Lady, an action-thriller series adapted from Irving Wallace’s bestselling novel. This project, set against a competitive backdrop, is being crafted by Jessica Sharzer, known for her work on The Simple Favor films. The adaptation is produced by Kevin Williamson’s Outerbanks Entertainment in collaboration with Universal Television, where Williamson has an overall deal.
This initiative marks the inaugural project from a recent first-look agreement between Sharzer and Universal Television, a model the studio introduced in 2025 to foster shorter-term, non-exclusive development deals.
The storyline of The Second Lady unfolds with the abduction of America’s beloved First Lady, who is replaced by a Russian double. As one woman struggles for survival in Siberia, the other must navigate the complexities of the White House to sabotage NATO during the G7 Summit.
Jessica Sharzer, who holds a Master’s degree in Russian Literature from UC Berkeley, will executive produce alongside Williamson and Ben Fast of Outerbanks Entertainment. Peter J. Donaldson, representing Wallace’s literary estate, also joins as an executive producer, with David Wallechinsky, Wallace’s son and executor of the estate, serving as co-producer. Universal Television is the studio backing this project.
Sharzer has an impressive portfolio of produced features, including Nerve (2015), A Simple Favor (2018), and the upcoming Another Simple Favor (2025). Her television credits include co-executive producer roles on FX’s American Horror Story, Fox’s Star, Apple TV’s Amazing Stories, and Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers. She is represented by UTA, Northstar, and Lichter, Grossman, Nichols.
Williamson, the creator behind Scream, recently completed his directorial debut with Scream 7. Additionally, he has created The Waterfront for Netflix in partnership with Universal. His production company, Outerbanks Entertainment, is managed by President Ben Fast and Vice President Julia Buckingham. Williamson is represented by CAA and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson McGinnis Ryan.
Donaldson and Wallechinsky are represented by The Law Offices of Adam W. Rosen.
