Author of ‘People We Meet On Vacation’ Shares Exciting Changes Coming in the Netflix Adaptation
As People We Meet on Vacation transitions from a beloved book to its film adaptation, fans may observe notable differences in the 2021 romantic comedy’s portrayal.
Author Emily Henry shared insights about the adaptation, crafted by Yulin Kuang and directed by Brett Haley. The film is set to premiere on January 9 on Netflix. Henry noted that the narrative’s essence remains intact, focusing on the decade-long friendship of Poppy (Emily Bader) and Alex (Tom Blyth) as it evolves during their annual getaways.
“There are a couple of differences between the book and the movie that I’m really excited for the readers to see,” she stated in an interview with Netflix. “We’ve moved a lot of the book from Palm Springs to Barcelona, so there’s some fun new set dressing that they haven’t already experienced. But more than that, I think it’s these added scenes that were used to do, like a truncated version of stuff that happens in the book.”
Henry elaborated, “So that means we get new dialog between Poppy and Alex, new moments, new jokes, new beats of affection. It’s kind of just like we get extra pieces of them and I really think that the readers are gonna just like eat that up.”
The film features a diverse cast that includes Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, Lukas Gage, Molly Shannon, Alan Ruck, Miles Heizer, Tommy Do, and Alice Lee.
