Prime Video Expands Its Reach with New Action Series ‘Embassy,’ Starring Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, J.K. Simmons, and Luke Treadaway
Prime Video Secures Rights to Upcoming Action-Thriller Series ‘Embassy’
Prime Video has acquired the rights to the highly anticipated action-thriller series Embassy, featuring a star-studded cast that includes Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan, and J.K. Simmons. The streaming platform will release the six-part series in several territories, including the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Australia, and New Zealand.
The series, produced by AGC Television alongside Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios, is set to debut in 2024. AGC International is handling international sales, while Prime Video’s UK acquisitions team coordinated the licensing deal.
Filming for Embassy has commenced in Cologne, Germany, and London, with additional casting announcements expected soon.
Joining Kendrick, Heughan, and Simmons are Aleksandar Jovanovic (The Gold), Lydia Leonard (Gentleman Jack), Mitya Savelau (3 Body Problem), Hasan Akil (Memory Box), James Murray (Masters of the Air), Luke Treadaway (Unbroken), Stephen Odubola (Boiling Point), Katie McGrath (The Ex-Wife), Alexander Karim (Gladiator 2), and Natalie Mendoza (Jack Ryan).
This geo-political thriller has gained traction since its announcement shortly before MIPCOM Cannes, where it was revealed that Kendrick and Simmons would headline the project, financed by AGC. Heughan joined the cast soon after.
Embassy follows Layla (Kendrick), a resourceful American diplomat faced with a critical decision: protect the U.S. Ambassador (Simmons) or adhere to his orders to evacuate a high-value asset during an armed assault on the U.S. Embassy in London. She must rely on her instincts and the reluctant assistance of her ex-fiancé, Connor Wright (Heughan), in the nerve-wracking moments leading up to the mission’s extraction.
The series is penned by writer and creator Rom Lotan, with John Strickland and Christian Alvart directing. Executive producers include Lotan and Strickland, alongside figures from Ascendant Fox, Turbine Studios, and AGC Studios.
Notably, this acquisition follows a significant announcement from Amazon regarding the hire of Oliver Jones from Apple TV as the new Senior Commissioner for UK Scripted content, effective in May, as he transitions from LA back to London.
