Kevin Durant Will Miss Game 1 Against the Lakers
Injuries Plague Playoff Matchup Between Lakers and Rockets
As the NBA playoffs commence, both the Los Angeles Lakers and the Houston Rockets are grappling with significant injuries to key players. Houston’s coach, Ime Udoka, confirmed that star forward Kevin Durant will not participate in Game 1 against the Lakers this Saturday due to a knee injury sustained during practice.
Udoka described Durant’s condition as a case of soreness and tenderness in his right knee, referring to it as a “one-game thing” though the decision was made after Durant felt “not good enough” during warm-ups at Crypto.com Arena.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are also dealing with their own injury challenges, as both Luka Doncic, who is managing a hamstring issue, and Austin Reaves, who has an oblique injury, are sidelined indefinitely. Doncic recently returned to the U.S. after receiving treatment for his left hamstring in Spain. Prior to the game, Lakers coach JJ Redick expressed optimism about the situation, noting, “He’s in good spirits and we’re excited to see him today.”
In Durant’s absence, Udoka intends to start guard Josh Okogie alongside Reed Sheppard, Jabari Smith Jr., Amen Thompson, and Alperen Sengun. The coach anticipates a faster tempo on the floor with these adjustments, praising the offensive capabilities of Sheppard and Thompson. “Amen obviously pushes the pace but Reed’s a really good kick ahead guy and our wings get out and run,” Udoka stated.
The Lakers concluded the regular season strong, winning their last three games to secure home-court advantage for the first playoff round, while the Rockets enter on the heels of a remarkable stretch, winning nine out of their last ten games. The initial clash between these two teams promises to be a dynamic matchup, albeit marked by the absence of some star talent.
