Chris Paul Seems Unbothered by the Clippers’ Playoff Loss to the Warriors
In a striking social media moment, Chris Paul, a future Hall of Famer, expressed his sentiments shortly after the Los Angeles Clippers’ abrupt exit from the postseason. Just four months after his unexpected retirement from the team, Paul posted a meme on his Instagram story that read, “stopped by my biggest hater’s funeral.” This was in response to the Clippers’ disappointing 126-121 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the play-in tournament, during which the team squandered a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter.
During his brief return to the Clippers earlier this season, Paul, who holds the record for the most assists in the franchise’s history, openly challenged the effectiveness of teammates, coaches, and executives. Following a dismal 6-21 start to the season, his attempts at fostering accountability were met with resistance, culminating in tensions with head coach Tyronn Lue, who reportedly ended communication with Paul as the team struggled.
A source within the league noted that frustrations ran high among those in the organization. Paul, who ranks second in NBA history for career assists with 12,552, addressed his release from the team via social media, simply stating, “Just Found Out I’m Being Sent Home,” accompanied by a peace emoji.
Despite the rocky start, the Clippers managed to rebound, finishing the season with a record of 42-40, marking their 15th consecutive season with a winning record. However, the season ended on a somber note with the loss to the Warriors, providing Paul with an opportunity to share his meme, reminiscent of a similar post made by Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid when they traded guard Ben Simmons in 2022.
