First Look at ‘Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse’ Enthralls CinemaCon Audience
CinemaCon, Las Vegas – Sony Pictures Animation unveiled a thrilling first-look scene from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse on Monday, captivating attendees with fresh insights into the upcoming film. The third installment of the acclaimed trilogy is scheduled for release on June 18, 2027, and continues the journey of Miles Morales, portrayed by Shameik Moore, following the tension-filled cliffhanger of 2023’s Across the Spider-Verse.
In the previous film, Miles encountered a dangerous parallel self who evolved into the villainous Prowler in a chaotic New York City devoid of a Spider-Man. Now, he faces a new crisis as he becomes the target of Miguel O’Hara’s Spider Society. With friends turning against him, Miles must navigate the darkest realms of the Spider-Verse to find his way home. The stakes are personal; his family is fractured and under threat, pushing him into a race against time to reunite with those he loves while simultaneously battling both his uncle and the malevolent version of himself.
Hailee Steinfeld reprises her role as Gwen Stacy, while Brian Tyree Henry, who voices Miles’ father, Jeffrey David, has teased that this installment promises to be “even more epic than the last,” warning fans to prepare their tissues.
The Spider-Man films are recognized for their groundbreaking animation and immense success; the first chapter, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2019. Its successor, Across the Spider-Verse, received an Oscar nomination, and together, the films have grossed over $1.08 billion worldwide.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is directed by Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson, with a screenplay crafted by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and David Callaham, based on Marvel Comics. The production team includes Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Jinko Gotoh, while Aditya Sood and Christina Steinberg serve as executive producers.
Lord reassured attendees that beloved characters will return and hinted at new emotional challenges for Miles. He emphasized the importance of portraying goodness and how the love characters have for Miles influences his growth and success, saying, “Miles has to deal with a sense of betrayal and turn it into something affirmative.”
The early footage presentation showcased the innovative approach of the Sony Animation team, with Lord highlighting their commitment to pushing creative boundaries. This sneak peek not only excited the audience but also reinforced the film’s ambition to blend thrilling storytelling with emotive character arcs.
