Waymo and Waze Team Up to Report Potholes in Los Angeles
Waymo and Waze Collaborate to Combat Potholes in Los Angeles
Waymo and Waze have announced a new partnership aimed at improving road conditions in Los Angeles through a pilot initiative that focuses on pothole detection and reporting.
The collaboration, revealed in a joint press release on Thursday, will implement Waymo’s advanced feedback systems to identify potholes, which will then be relayed to local and state Departments of Transportation. The effort aims to enhance the city’s road safety and maintenance efforts.
“The data will also be visible to Waze users in the cities where Waymo operates, keeping road users safe by alerting them as they approach a pothole,” the press release stated. It further noted that users will have the ability to verify Waymo-identified potholes within the Waze app, enhancing the accuracy of the information shared.
As part of the pilot, Waymo has reportedly already identified approximately 500 potholes. Los Angeles is one of five cities participating in this initiative, alongside San Francisco, Phoenix, Austin, and Atlanta.
The collaboration underscores a growing trend of leveraging technology to address urban infrastructure challenges and improve overall road safety for drivers.
