José Soriano of the Angels Makes MLB History as First Four-Game Winner of 2026
Angels Secure Series Victory Over Reds for First Time Since 2007
Los Angeles achieved a 9-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, taking two of three games in the series. This marks the Angels’ first series win in Cincinnati since June 2007.
José Soriano starred on the mound for Los Angeles, striking out 10 batters in seven shutout innings. With this win, Soriano improved his record to 4-0, becoming the major leagues’ first four-game winner this season. He allowed just two hits and three walks, throwing 106 pitches while decreasing his league-leading ERA to 0.33. Soriano is the first Angels pitcher since Jered Weaver in 2011 to win his first four games.
The game showcased a commanding performance from the Angels, who built a substantial 9-0 lead by the eighth inning. Nolan Schanuel was instrumental in the offense, driving in three runs, including a two-run single in the three-run first inning that also featured a hit from Logan O’Hoppe.
Mike Trout, who scored three runs, contributed an RBI double in the second inning and later crossed home plate on Jorge Soler’s sacrifice fly. Elly De La Cruz attempted to rally for the Reds with a three-run homer, marking his fifth long ball of the season.
On the other side, Reds pitcher Andrew Abbott (0-2) struggled, allowing seven runs—tying his career high—and seven earned runs for the first time. He gave up eight hits and two walks over three innings.
With this series win, the Angels reflect a promising start to the season as they continue to build momentum.
