YouTube Premium Has Increased Its Prices: What You Need to Know
YouTube Premium Announces Price Increases for Subscribers
YouTube Premium is set to implement its first price increases since 2023, raising the monthly cost of its primary subscription plan by $2, bringing it to $15.99. The Lite plan will see an increase of $1, now priced at $8.99, while family plans will rise by $4 to $26.99 per month.
Despite YouTube’s widespread growth as a free, ad-supported platform, the Premium service has gained considerable traction. In 2025, YouTube announced it surpassed 125 million subscribers, providing benefits such as ad-free viewing, background play, and offline downloads. YouTube Music Premium, a service comparable to Spotify and Apple Music, has also seen a price increase, rising from $10.99 to $11.99.
Customers were informed of the upcoming price adjustments through an email from the company, with the changes set to take effect starting with June billing statements.
This pattern of price hikes is not isolated to YouTube; it reflects a broader trend in the streaming industry. Streaming services are increasingly adjusting their pricing structures as the transition from linear and physical media continues. Netflix recently announced its own round of price increases, emphasizing the growing gap between ad-free and ad-supported subscription tiers. Companies are also exploring bundling strategies, such as Comcast’s Xfinity StreamSaver, to maintain competitive pricing while offering ad-supported options.
