Doja Cat Stands Up for Madonna Amid Criticism Over Age: Why We Should Celebrate Artists of All Ages
Madonna Defended by Doja Cat Against Ageist Comments
Pop icon Madonna, who has faced ageist remarks throughout her career, received a strong defense from fellow artist Doja Cat in a recent TikTok video. The video, posted on April 8, has garnered attention as Doja Cat advocates for Madonna against critics who claim she is “too old” to perform.
In the nearly two-minute clip, Doja Cat expressed her frustration with those who have suggested that the legendary singer should “stop” performing. “It’s interesting to me because, it’s like, you’re telling a musician who makes music, who performs it as a job, to stop doing it?” she said, questioning the rationale behind such comments.
Doja Cat further examined the implications behind the negativity surrounding Madonna’s performances, speculating whether it stems from discomfort with an “older woman who feels sexy.” She provocatively asked, “Is that why you want her to get off stage? Because you feel threatened by an older woman who can do her job forever?”
In a lighthearted tone, Doja Cat suggested that the animosity towards Madonna may reflect underlying issues within the critics themselves. “Maybe they don’t like Madonna performing because they have ‘something personal happening in there’,” she stated, later quipping, “Aww, I’m sorry, it’s not funny,” as she pretended to wipe away tears.
Madonna recently graced the stage for an intimate performance at a Dolce & Gabbana fashion show in Milan and wrapped up her record-breaking Celebration Tour, which featured sold-out venues across Europe and the Americas. The tour concluded with a spectacular free show for over 1.6 million fans on Rio De Janeiro’s Copacabana Beach.
Doja Cat’s own tour, in support of her Billboard 200 No. 4 album Vie, is set to continue on May 19 in Dublin, before traveling across Europe and concluding at Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 1.
