Keir Starmer Teams Up with Olivia Colman and Peppa Pig in SNL UK’s Funny Cold Open
SNL UK Takes a Humorous Approach to Serious Topics in Latest Cold Open
In a notable cold open, Saturday Night Live UK featured British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, portrayed by George Fouracres, delivering an unorthodox address to the nation. Standing before a Union Jack backdrop, Starmer humorously reflected on his leadership, admitting, “I’m not inspiring.”
With the ongoing conflict in the Middle East entering its second month, Starmer addressed the nation with candor, stating, “We’re working at pace towards de-escalation, and the pace we are working at is leisurely.”
The sketch took a comedic turn when Starmer called on fictional characters—Olivia Colman, Peppa Pig, and Harry Kane—to uplift the nation’s spirits.
Emma Sidi, embodying Colman, wittily remarked while holding her Oscar, “Gosh, this is a bit sexy, isn’t it? Flirting with Iran and playing with oil. Next thing you know, there’s an energy shortage and the power is off, and we’re snogging in the dark.”
Peppa Pig, voiced by Annabel Marlow, offered a surprisingly poignant piece of advice for “Daddy Keir,” stating, “Life is hell, but it doesn’t last long, and soon the sadness will end.”
Hosted by Riz Ahmed, this episode marked the third installment of SNL UK, which is gaining momentum as it finds its footing in the UK market.
The series debuted to 226,000 viewers, with a slight decline to 205,000 in its second week. Last week’s cold open featuring Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor garnered over 2 million views on YouTube, making it the most-watched sketch on the platform to date.
