Coyote Bites 3-Year-Old Twice in Carson Incident
Toddler Bitten by Coyote in Carson; Authorities Launch Search
CARSON, Calif. – A coyote attack on a three-year-old child in Carson has prompted California wildlife officials to initiate a search for the animal, which is believed to be a "repeat offender." The incident occurred Tuesday morning while the child’s family was unloading a vehicle in the 400 block of Moorehaven Drive.
State authorities reported that the coyote bit the child twice, resulting in minor injuries. The young victim was promptly transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
Officials have since used DNA testing to confirm that the same coyote was involved in a previous incident in the area last year. Surveillance footage from the neighborhood is under review as investigators seek additional details.
While the search for the coyote is scheduled to continue through at least April 6, the exact whereabouts of the animal remain unclear, including whether it has become accustomed to human presence due to feeding practices in the neighborhood.
Residents can expect to see increased patrols from California Fish and Wildlife officials, particularly during the nighttime hours between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. If the coyote is not located within the initial search period, officials have not outlined what further measures may be enacted.
As a precaution, community members are urged to supervise children outdoors, keep pets leashed, and secure trash bins to reduce potential attractants. In the case of active sightings or attacks, residents are advised to contact local authorities immediately.
