Six The Musical Comes to U.S. Theaters Thanks to Universal Pictures
Universal Pictures to Release "Six The Musical Live!" in Theaters
Universal Pictures Content Group has secured the domestic theatrical rights to Six The Musical Live!, the filmed version of the acclaimed stage production. The film is set for release in U.S. cinemas through Focus on August 14.
Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, Six The Musical reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as contemporary pop icons. The musical features Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard, and Catherine Parr, who "reclaim their stories with sass, power, and unforgettable tunes."
Since its Broadway debut in 2021, the production has expanded its reach, being staged in over 16 countries, including the UK, Japan, China, and Australia.
Six The Musical has garnered acclaim, winning two Tony Awards and receiving a Grammy nomination for Best Musical Theater Album.
The film adaptation, recorded at the Vaudeville Theatre in London, is directed for the stage by Lucy Moss and Jamie Armitage, while Liz Clare helmed the film direction. The production team includes Kenny Wax, Wendy and Andy Barnes, George Stiles, and Dione Orrom.
