Tiger Woods Shares His Response to DUI Arrest and Plans for Treatment Break
Tiger Woods to Step Away for Treatment Following DUI Arrest
Golf legend Tiger Woods has issued a statement addressing his recent arrest for driving under the influence (DUI) following a rollover accident on March 27 in Jupiter, Florida. In his remarks, Woods emphasized the need to prioritize his health and well-being by taking time off from public life.
“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today,” Woods stated. “I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health.” He further affirmed his commitment to returning in a “healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally,” and requested privacy for himself and his family during this time.
Woods’s statement comes after he pleaded not guilty to the DUI charges. The charges arose following an incident detailed in an affidavit released by the Martin County Sheriff’s Office. According to the report, deputies at the scene observed Woods “sweating profusely” and noted his “lethargic and slow” demeanor. A search revealed two hydrocodone pills in his pants pocket.
In the affidavit, an officer recounted asking Woods about his alcohol consumption, to which he responded he had consumed “none.” However, he acknowledged taking several prescription medications, including those for high blood pressure, cholesterol, Ibuprofen, and Vicodin. Woods indicated he had taken his prescribed medication earlier that morning while exhibiting alertness during the interaction.
The document also noted that Woods claimed to have been distracted by his cell phone and radio when his vehicle swerved, ultimately colliding with a truck towing a pressure cleaner trailer on a two-lane road with a 30 mph speed limit.
As Woods prepares to step back from the spotlight, the implications extend beyond his personal health, as fans and the golf community watch closely for his recovery and return to the sport.
