Filmmaker Padriac McKinley Signs with Range Media Partners Following Sundance Acquisition
Filmmaker Padriac McKinley has signed with Range Media Partners following the acquisition of his film, The Weight, by Vertical after its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. McKinley, an experienced editor with credits on 19 feature films and over 200 television episodes, made his directorial debut with The Weight, which features acclaimed actors Ethan Hawke and Russell Crowe.
The Weight premiered at Sundance in January and subsequently screened at the 76th Berlin International Film Festival, where it garnered a notable 94% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. The film is set to hit theaters on September 18.
McKinley directed The Weight from a screenplay written by Shelby Gaines, Matthew Chapman, and Matthew Booi, with a story developed by Booi and Leo Scherman. His career gained traction through his work on DirecTV’s drama Kingdom, where he served as Co-Executive Producer and directed four episodes, including the series finale. He has also executive produced several prominent series, such as the award-nominated American Gods on Starz and the Golden Globe-winning Showtime limited series The Loudest Voice, featuring Crowe.
In addition to The Loudest Voice, McKinley was an Executive Producer on Showtime’s historical drama The Good Lord Bird, which stars Ethan Hawke and received critical acclaim, including a Peabody Award.
McKinley directed and edited the Netflix original documentary series Fightworld, which delves into global fight cultures. He also held roles as Producing Director and Co-Executive Producer on NBC’s Debris, directing multiple episodes in 2021. More recently, he served as Consulting Producer on the Amazon thriller Poker Face, The Sticky, and as Executive Producer on Showtime’s Ghosts of Beirut.
