Grey’s Anatomy Star Joins Forces with STV Studios for Exciting New Indie Project
Kevin McKidd’s Ferryman Films Partners with STV Studios for New Drama
London, United Kingdom — In a noteworthy development for the entertainment industry, Kevin McKidd, known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, has announced a new partnership between his production company, Ferryman Films, and STV Studios, the producer behind Criminal Record.
The collaboration will see Ferryman Films and STV Studios co-produce a range of drama, with their first joint project being an exclusive book option of William Shaw’s crime thriller, The Red Shore. This book marks the beginning of Shaw’s new Eden Driscoll detective series. The two companies will work together to adapt it for the screen.
McKidd, who leads Ferryman Films alongside Charlotte Rutherford, shared his vision for the company, stating, "I created Ferryman Films to build distinctive, character-led stories that have the potential to connect widely with audiences internationally. Scotland is a huge part of Ferryman’s DNA because it’s such an important part of who I am. However, we’re not limiting ourselves to stories set there – for us, it’s about finding projects with real identity, wherever they come from."
David Mortimer, head of STV Studios, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing the ambition to create original, high-quality drama with a global reach. “I’m delighted to welcome Ferryman Films to the family through this exclusive partnership," Mortimer said. "We share the same ambition to create original, high-quality drama with global resonance, and Ferryman’s ethos, ambition, and development slate align perfectly with our values."
Earlier this month, STV, which owns STV Studios, reported a loss of £4 million ($5.3 million) for the full year ending December 31, while revenue remained stable at £83.2 million, with an adjusted operating profit of £3.9 million.
As the collaboration unfolds, it promises to bring new and compelling stories to both local and international audiences.
