Laura Dern to Lead New Jeffrey Epstein Series at Sony TV Inspired by Julie K. Brown’s Book, Produced by Adam McKay
Title: Television Adaptation of Investigative Book on Jeffrey Epstein in the Works
Perversion of Justice: The Jeffrey Epstein Story, a bestselling book by investigative journalist Julie K. Brown, is being adapted into a television limited series. Laura Dern, an Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner, will star and serve as an executive producer. Sony Pictures Television is collaborating with Adam McKay’s Hyperobject Industries on this timely project.
The series offers a compelling narrative of Brown’s investigative work that uncovered a secret plea deal between Epstein and federal prosecutors. Drawing on her groundbreaking reporting for the Miami Herald, the adaptation chronicles Brown’s extensive investigation, which identified 80 victims and encouraged key survivors to share their stories, ultimately leading to the arrests of Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
The script has been written by Sharon Hoffman, known for her work on Mrs. America and House of Cards. She will share the role of co-showrunner and executive producer with Eileen Myers, recognized for her contributions to American Hostage and Masters of Sex. Other executive producers include McKay, Kevin Messick, Brown, and Dern.
Brown’s reputation as a journalist is closely tied to her relentless coverage of Epstein’s sex trafficking case. In 2008, Epstein was permitted to plead guilty to two state-level prostitution offenses, a controversial decision that has drawn considerable public criticism. Brown’s reporting has earned her two George Polk Awards for Justice Reporting, among other accolades, and she was named one of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people of 2020.
The story remains relevant, particularly in light of Donald Trump’s previous social ties to Epstein, which have come under scrutiny during Trump’s second term. While Trump has not faced any charges related to Epstein, their connections have continued to attract considerable attention.
