Get Ready: The Competition for Hair Products in the NIL Era
Corona High Baseball Coach Plays on Hair Rivalry in Season’s Matchup
In a playful nod to the natural flair of young athletes, the coaching staff at Corona High is humorously exploring the idea of a Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deal for sophomore pitcher Chris Woodson. Known for his voluminous hair that dances in the wind, Woodson’s locks have sparked comparisons to former NFL superstar Troy Polamalu, famously featured in Head & Shoulders commercials.
The playful rivalry reached new heights during a recent matchup against Corona Santiago, where Woodson faced off against his teammate Striker Pence. Pence, sporting a recent haircut, showcased his own blond hair peeking from beneath his baseball cap.
"Me and his dad are both bald and both had hair when we were young. We’re not letting him cut it. It’s flowing. He has a 4.0 GPA and is an awesome kid that everyone loves," stated Corona coach Andy Wise, highlighting Woodson’s achievements both on and off the field.
Coach Wise’s perspective is a departure from his earlier coaching days at Granada Hills, where he mandated players to maintain a certain hair length. "As long as Woodson isn’t distracted, I’m fine with it," he added. "Be yourself, kid."
The lighthearted commentary around Woodson’s hair not only adds a unique element to the team dynamic but also underscores the vibrant spirit of high school sports.
