NBC Confirms Renewals for Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med for the 2026-27 Season
NBC has announced the renewal of its popular OneChicago franchise, continuing its partnership with Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television. This includes the flagship series Chicago Fire, which will return for Season 15, Chicago P.D. for Season 14, and Chicago Med for Season 12. All three shows are expected to air in the fall of 2026, likely maintaining their traditional OneChicago Wednesday night slot.
This announcement comes on the heels of a successful crossover event on March 4, which resulted in season-high viewership for each series, along with a 75% increase in social video views compared to last year’s crossover.
The early renewal stands in contrast to last year’s negotiations, which extended into the deadline as the network and studio grappled with budget cuts. This led to a reduction in the episode count from 22 to 21 and the departure of several cast members.
The current renewal hints that cuts may not be as significant this year, although the exact number of episodes for the upcoming season remains undecided. With the renewals secured, the franchise will need to negotiate contracts for several veteran cast members, including Chicago Med lead S. Epatha Merkerson, whose contract is also expiring this season.
As the OneChicago franchise enters its second decade, it continues to demonstrate strong performance both on traditional television and streaming platforms, consistently appearing in Peacock’s Top 10 during its seasons.
The series, showcasing the professional and personal lives of Chicago first responders, is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in collaboration with Wolf Entertainment. Additionally, the announcement coincides with the renewal of NBC’s sophomore comedies St. Denis Medical and Happy’s Place, while pickups for Wolf Entertainment’s Law & Order: SVU and Law & Order are still pending.
