Judith Light Teams Up with Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant for a New Amazon Rom-Com
EXCLUSIVE: Judith Light, an Emmy Award winner, has joined the cast of the untitled romantic comedy featuring Cameron Diaz and Stephen Merchant.
Light will appear alongside previously announced cast members Jake Lacy, Josh Segarra, Sherry Cola, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Fabrizio Guido, Lisa Gilroy, and Dustin Ybarra in this project by Amazon MGM Studios.
The film, written by Merchant and John Butler, tells the story of a workaholic Brit, played by Merchant, who works at an upscale New York hotel. Facing pressure to appear married, he negotiates a deal with a struggling stand-up comic, portrayed by Diaz, who is in need of health insurance. What begins as a transactional fake marriage evolves into a comical and unexpected romance.
Producers for the film include Lee Eisenberg, Merchant, and the team from Point Grey Pictures, consisting of Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Josh Fagen. Natalie Sandy will serve as executive producer.
Light’s recent work includes the film The Same Storm directed by Peter Hedges, the HBO Max series Julia, Starz’s Shining Vale, and The Menu by Searchlight. Her additional film credits encompass The Young Wife and Down Low from FilmNation, as well as Out of My Mind for Disney+, tick, tick…Boom! for Netflix, and Ms. White Light.
On the television front, Light appeared in the second season of American Horror Stories and had roles in Before on Apple TV+, All’s Fair for Hulu, Impeachment: American Crime Story, and Poker Face on Peacock, for which she won a Primetime Emmy for Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Additionally, she received a Golden Globe nomination and multiple Emmy and Critics Choice nominations for her role in Transparent on Prime Video. Light is represented by Gersh and Brillstein.
