California Gas Prices Surge to New Heights
As of Tuesday, California’s average price for a gallon of regular gasoline reached $5.822, a notable increase from $5.790 the previous day. This rise marks a continued trend of escalating fuel costs across the state, particularly in Los Angeles County, where the average price climbed to $5.93, its highest since early October 2023.
According to data from AAA, gasoline prices in Los Angeles County have now increased on 33 out of the last 34 days. Over the past week, prices surged by more than 30 cents, reflecting a staggering $1.263 rise since last month and $1.274 since the same time last year. This upward trajectory has brought the average price closer to the historical peak of $6.494 recorded in October 2022.
In Orange County, the average price rose by 2.8 cents, reaching $5.887, its highest level since October 6. Meanwhile, California’s overall average for regular gasoline stood at $5.822, significantly higher than $4.628 from a month ago and $4.647 from a year prior.
As of Tuesday morning, four counties in California reported average gasoline prices exceeding $6. Those included Marin, Sonoma, and Humboldt counties, with Inyo County reporting the highest average at $6.565. Conversely, Tehama County in Northern California recorded the lowest average price at $5.461. On a national scale, the average price for a gallon of gasoline was noted at $3.977.
The implications of these rising costs extend beyond individual budgets, potentially affecting broader economic conditions as consumers may alter spending habits in response to higher fuel prices. As prices continue to climb, residents are on alert for further fluctuations in the weeks to come.
