Isla Fisher Shares Her Heartfelt Response to the Passing of Confessions of a Shopaholic Author Sophie Kinsella at 55

Isla Fisher is mourning the loss of Sophie Kinsella, the beloved author best known for her humorous novels. In an emotional tribute shared on her Instagram Stories on December 10, the actress reflected on Kinsella’s significant impact. Fisher played the lead role in the film adaptation of Kinsella’s 2000 novel *Confessions of a Shopaholic.*
“Dear Sophie, You conjured Rebecca Bloomwood, a hilarious flawed dream of a comic character—and I was lucky enough to step into her shoes and speak your witty & brilliant words,” wrote Fisher, 49, accompanying a photo of the two smiling at an event.

She went on to say, “My daughters grew up being read your books and love them to this day. My heart is broken. You are still my hero, and I’m grateful for you. And though we won’t meet again, your light and magic lives on in your incredible characters.”
Kinsella, born Madeleine Sophie Wickham, authored more than 30 books during her prolific career, but she is perhaps most renowned for the 2000 novel *Confessions of a Shopaholic,* which Fisher starred in alongside Hugh Dancy in its film adaptation.
Kinsella’s death, confirmed by her family on social media earlier in the day, shocked fans and friends alike. She was 55. “We are heartbroken to announce the passing this morning of our beloved Sophie (aka Maddy, aka Mummy),” the family wrote. “She died peacefully, with her final days filled with her true loves: family and music and warmth and Christmas and joy.”

In 2022, Kinsella was diagnosed with an aggressive form of glioblastoma brain cancer. Her family remarked on her courage throughout her illness, adding that she felt truly blessed despite her condition.
A second post from Fisher included a promotional image from *Confessions of a Shopaholic,* featuring Fisher as she tosse shopping bags into a taxi cab. “I’m so heartbroken that you are gone,” she wrote, tagging Kinsella.

Kinsella began her literary career with *The Tennis Party,* written at the age of 24 after transitioning from a role as a financial journalist.
She is survived by her husband Henry Wickham and their five children.
