HBO Max Confirms Season 5 Will Be the Final Season of ‘Hacks’ Along with Premiere Details and Trailer Release
Final Season of HBO Max’s *Hacks* Set to Premiere
Earlier this month, Hannah Einbinder, a leading star of HBO Max’s Hacks, confirmed that the comedy series will conclude with its fifth season. In an interview with Collider, she stated, “Yes. I don’t know what I’m supposed to say and not say. One time, I said the wrong thing, and then we took it back. But it was real then, and it’s real now. So yeah, it is the last season, okay?”
HBO Max has now officially acknowledged what many in Hollywood had anticipated. The fifth and final season will premiere on Thursday, April 9, at 9 PM ET.
This ten-part season will release episodes weekly, featuring two new episodes on April 30 and May 7, leading up to the series finale on May 28. A trailer for the season is available for viewing.
[SPOILER ALERT] The fourth season concluded with Jean Smart’s Deborah Vance grappling with her non-compete contract and preparing to travel to Singapore with Einbinder’s character, Ava. Following a night of heavy partying, unsubstantiated reports of Vance’s death surface.
Season five picks up in the wake of these erroneous and unflattering news stories. Deborah and Ava return to Las Vegas, more determined than ever to solidify Deborah’s legacy as a comedian.
Joining Smart and Einbinder in the cast are Paul W. Downs, Megan Stalter, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Mark Indelicato, and Rose Abdoo, with guest appearances from Robby Hoffman, Tony Goldwyn, Kaitlin Olson, Christopher McDonald, Jane Adams, Lauren Weedman, Poppy Liu, Johnny Sibilly, Luenell, Angela E. Gibbs, Caitlin Reilly, and Christopher Briney. Leslie Bibb, Cherry Jones, and Ann Dowd are also set to appear in season five.
The creators of Hacks, Paul W. Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky, have long envisioned the series’ concluding scene, describing it as “very full-circle.” The trio serves as showrunners, with Downs and Aniello executive producing through their Paulilu banner, while Statsky collaborates via First Thought Productions. Michael Schur, David Miner for 3 Arts Entertainment, Morgan Sackett, Joe Mande, Aisha Muharrar, Nate Young, and Ashley Glazier also contribute to production, under the umbrella of Universal Television.
