Police body cam footage from Justin Timberlake’s 2024 DWI arrest in Sag Harbor, New York, has been made public.
On March 20, Sag Harbor police released the redacted footage to various news outlets that had requested public records. Timberlake, 45, had initially sought to prevent the footage from being released but later agreed to redactions as part of a settlement.
The singer was arrested in June 2024 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. He later pled guilty to a lesser charge of impaired driving and received a sentence of 25 hours of community service. Timberlake also recorded a public service announcement addressing the dangers of drinking and driving, stating, “Even if you’ve had one drink, don’t get behind the wheel of a car.”
TMZ was among the first to air the body cam footage, which depicts Timberlake struggling to perform sobriety tests after being pulled over in a BMW SUV. In the footage, he can be heard saying, “Guys, I’m just following my friends back to my house. I’m not doing anything. I’m just following my friends back to my house.”
During the tests, Timberlake was instructed to walk a straight line using nine heel-to-toe steps. He responded, “Sorry, I’m a little nervous,” as he took more steps than requested. In another test, while lifting one foot six inches off the ground, he remarked, “Sorry, my heart is racing,” concluding, “These are, like, really hard tests.” He was subsequently placed in handcuffs and arrested.
In legal documents filed on March 2, Timberlake’s attorneys asserted that the footage portrayed him in an “acutely vulnerable state” and argued its release would serve no legitimate public interest. A Long Island judge initially ordered that the videos not be released pending court review.
In a statement to Billboard on March 20, the Village of Sag Harbor expressed satisfaction that the issue had been resolved, allowing the village to fulfill its legal obligation to disclose the materials.
“From the beginning of this matter, after Mr. Timberlake’s arrest, the village has attempted to comply with the mandates of the Freedom of Information Law,” the statement noted. “As would be true in any case involving records or video footage from our police department, such material is reviewed and redacted to address public and officer safety concerns as well as personal privacy considerations.”
