Firefighters in Riverside County Provide Oxygen to Cats Rescued from Apartment Fire
Firefighters Save Four Cats from Apartment Blaze in Jurupa Valley
Four cats are alive today thanks to the heroic efforts of firefighters and a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy, who rescued the animals from a fire that engulfed an apartment building in Jurupa Valley earlier this week.
On Monday, a fire broke out on Emma Street, prompting an urgent search by firefighters. Inside one fire-damaged apartment, they discovered four cats struggling to survive. Three of the cats were unconscious and not breathing, initiating a frantic rescue effort.
As captured in a video shared by Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department on Instagram, first responders quickly transported the cats outside and began administering rescue breathing. The team utilized three oxygen tanks during their efforts, demonstrating both urgency and composure in their approach.
“Want some oxygen?” one firefighter asked while tending to the cats, showcasing the compassionate care inflicted on the animals. Colleagues were seen using chest compressions and cradling the cats’ heads, endeavoring to revive them. “That’s it… There we go,” reassured another firefighter as they worked methodically to bring the cats back to consciousness.
As the cats started to regain awareness, one firefighter offered them sips of water from a plastic bottle, highlighting the team’s dedication to their recovery. Fortunately, all four cats survived the incident.
“Four cats are alive today because firefighters and a deputy refused to give up,” stated the fire department in their Instagram post, noting that the pets were soon "up and walking around" thanks to the team’s tenacity.
The fire department commended the work of their personnel and law enforcement partners for going beyond the call of duty to save lives, regardless of size. The Instagram post garnered significant attention, amassing over 263,000 likes and nearly 10,000 comments praising the firefighters’ compassionate actions.
Commenters expressed their gratitude, with one stating, “Sobbing in gratitude. What compassionate heroes.” Another expressed, “Thank you for caring so much!” The emotional responses underscored the community’s appreciation for the rapid response and dedication displayed by the rescue team.
