Chuck Norris, the renowned martial artist and star of the television series Walker, Texas Ranger, has died at the age of 86. His family shared the news through a social media post on his Instagram account, revealing that he passed away unexpectedly yesterday morning after being hospitalized in Hawaii.
Norris was celebrated not only for his acting career but also for his extensive martial arts background, earning black belts in karate, taekwondo, tang soo do, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and judo. This expertise enabled him to take on significant roles, including his appearance in Return of the Dragon (also known as The Way of the Dragon) alongside Bruce Lee.
Following his early successes in the action genre, Norris became widely recognized for his role as Cordell Walker in CBS’s Walker, Texas Ranger. The series, which ran for nine seasons, showcased his portrayal of a Texas Ranger known for taking a principled stand against crime. His filmography includes notable titles such as Missing in Action, Code of Silence, and Firewalker, with his breakthrough role in Lone Wolf McQuade in 1983. Many of his characters were characterized as formidable heroes, often using violence only as a last resort.
In their tribute, Norris’s family described him as “a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, an incredible brother, and the heart of our family.” They emphasized his “faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment” to those he loved, highlighting his ability to inspire millions through his discipline and kindness.
Later in his career, Norris continued to resonate with audiences as the lead in Walker, Texas Ranger, a role that contributed to nearly 200 episodes. The series inspired a reboot starring Jared Padalecki, which aired on The CW from 2020 until 2024.
