Lakers Extend Winning Streak to 7 with 124-116 Victory Over Rockets as Doncic Scores 40 and James Contributes 30
Lakers Secure Seventh Consecutive Victory Against Rockets
The Los Angeles Lakers continued their impressive run, defeating the Houston Rockets 124-116 on Wednesday night. Luka Doncic led the charge with 40 points, while LeBron James contributed 30, extending the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games.
This victory marks the Lakers’ 10th win in their last 11 games, having triumphed over the Rockets 100-92 just two days prior.
With just over 90 seconds left in the game, the Lakers held a four-point lead when Doncic connected with James for an electrifying alley-oop dunk. Following a turnover by Kevin Durant, Doncic sank a pivotal three-pointer, pushing the Lakers’ lead to 120-111 with under a minute to play.
In addition to his scoring performance, Doncic recorded 10 assists and nine rebounds, falling just short of a triple-double. James exhibited remarkable efficiency, shooting 13 of 14 from the field—a performance that matches his best shooting effort in a single game. This achievement also marked a milestone, as he reached 12,002 career rebounds, becoming the 23rd player in NBA history to hit that mark. Notably, he had also shot 13 of 14 in a game against the Charlotte Hornets on February 4, 2013.
For the Rockets, Alperen Sengun returned after a two-game absence due to a back injury, scoring 27 points and dishing out 10 assists. Amen Thompson added 26 points and 11 rebounds, but the loss was the Rockets’ third in four games. Durant struggled in the first half, finishing with 18 points and six rebounds.
The Lakers initially trailed by two points before Rui Hachimura and Doncic made consecutive three-pointers, propelling the team to a 113-109 lead with about three minutes remaining. Thompson responded for the Rockets with a layup, but Hachimura’s dunk kept the Lakers ahead by four with less than two minutes left.
The game saw momentum swing back and forth, with the Rockets initially tying it early in the fourth quarter. However, James’s first four points in a 6-0 run helped give the Lakers a 102-96 lead with less than nine minutes to play, although the Rockets quickly regained the advantage with a nine-point scoring streak, highlighted by a three-pointer from Durant.
