Erin Doherty Joins the Cast of Nancy Meyers’ Latest Warner Bros. Comedy
Erin Doherty Joins Warner Bros. Comedy Directed by Nancy Meyers
Erin Doherty is set to star in the upcoming Warner Bros. comedy, marking a significant step following her acclaimed performance in Netflix’s Adolescence. The project comes from renowned filmmaker Nancy Meyers, known for her hallmark romantic comedies.
Details about Doherty’s character remain undisclosed. The British actress takes over the role previously assigned to Emma Mackey, who left the production in February due to a scheduling conflict. Doherty will appear alongside a notable cast that includes Penélope Cruz, Kieran Culkin, Jude Law, and Owen Wilson.
While the film’s official logline is yet to be revealed, early reports suggest that it centers on a filmmaker and producer, once a romantic pair, who reconnect years after their breakup to collaborate on a new movie. The narrative explores their complex relationship amid the challenges posed by high-profile stars and the pressures of production.
In a 2023 Instagram post, Meyers described the film as revolving around “a group of people making a film and the magic and mystery of what we do.” This project represents Meyers’ first feature since The Intern in 2015. Warner Bros. took over the film after Netflix put it on hold earlier this year due to budget concerns.
Meyers not only directs but also writes the screenplay and produces alongside Ilona Herzberg, with Diana Pokorny serving as executive producer. The film is scheduled for release on December 25, 2027.
Doherty has recently received international acclaim for her role as child psychologist Briony in Adolescence, earning her an Emmy, a Golden Globe, and a Critics Choice Award. She also received an Actor Awards nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor.
In addition to her recent success, Doherty stars in the crime drama A Thousand Blows, which returned for its second season in January. She will soon appear in the BBC’s new drama series California Avenue, sharing the screen with Billy Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter, and Tom Burke.
Doherty initially gained recognition for her portrayal of Princess Anne in the third and fourth seasons of Netflix’s The Crown. She is represented by CAA in the U.S., Conway van Gelder Grant in the UK, Untitled Entertainment, and Shelby Weiser at Sloane, Offer, Weber & Dern.
