Feathered Gowns Steal the Spotlight on the Oscars Red Carpet
Feathers took center stage at the Academy Awards on March 15, 2026, following their prominent appearance during recent fall fashion weeks. Several attendees showcased bold, feather-adorned ensembles, drawing attention on the red carpet.
Among the notable appearances was actor Demi Moore, who presented an award in a stunning gown by Gucci that echoed the vibrant allure of a peacock. This appearance came shortly after Moore attended Gucci’s runway debut in Milan, where creative director Demna unveiled a collection that received mixed reactions. The custom design for Moore featured an elegant silhouette adorned with intricate feather detailing, reminiscent of the brand’s Fall-Winter 2012 show.
Moore’s feathered gown aligned seamlessly with her earlier red carpet choice this month, where she dazzled in a black Schiaparelli gown embellished with a striking display of tulle.

Other stars also embraced the feather trend. Best supporting actress nominee Teyana Taylor, along with presenters Maya Rudolph and Nicole Kidman, donned custom Chanel gowns featuring elegantly quilled designs. Under the direction of Matthieu Blazy, Chanel’s latest collections have prominently featured feathers, signaling a new direction for the storied luxury house.
Blazy’s emphasis on feathers was evident in both his recent Paris fashion show and a couture collection he debuted in late January, which was inspired by images of birds.

Rachel Tashjian of CNN recently noted that Blazy’s couture line conveyed “extraordinary lightness,” with pieces that appeared to float on the models. This characteristic was beautifully illustrated in Taylor and Kidman’s ensembles. Taylor’s gown featured a sheer bodice that transitioned into a dramatic tiered skirt, while Kidman’s peach dress was delicately embellished with feathers, lending her an ethereal appearance.
As Blazy explores transformations within Chanel’s traditional aesthetics, reactions on social media have largely reflected surprise, with many noting the departure from the expected styles synonymous with the brand.
Additional celebrities joined the feather movement as well. Bella Thorne showcased black feathered sleeves, and best supporting actress winner Amy Madigan wore a Dior jacket adorned with black and gold feather paillettes. Meanwhile, Jayme Lawson’s electric blue Loewe dress featured fringe detailing that evoked the image of vibrant tropical birds.

Jessica Alba wore a sequin gown by Tamara Ralph, adorned with diamond coque feathers.

Maya Rudolph’s silk crepe dress from Chanel was embroidered with crystals, malachite beads and feathers.

Olivia Rodrigo’s Saint Laurent look put a girlish spin on the feather trend. Her dusty rose dress, complete with a mini skirt hemline, came wrapped in a bow.
As the evening progressed, feathers continued to make a memorable statement at Vanity Fair’s annual after-party. Jessica Alba turned heads in a gown by Tamara Ralph, featuring black diamond coque feathers layered atop sequins, while Olivia Rodrigo opted for a youthful take with a dusty rose feathered mini dress by Saint Laurent.
The emergence of feathers throughout the night offered a captivating blend of drama, romance, and softness, providing designers with a canvas to explore their creative visions.
