Misty Copeland Brings a Touch of ’80s Flair to Balletcore at the 2026 Oscars in a Chic Tutu Dress
Misty Copeland made a striking impression at the 2026 Oscars on March 15, showcasing a revival of the balletcore aesthetic. The celebrated ballet dancer graced the red carpet in a black-and-white gown designed by David Koma, featuring a distinctive built-in tutu.
Copeland’s ensemble, part of Koma’s Fall 2026 collection, boasted a boxy blazer bodice adorned with 1980s-inspired shoulder pads and an ultra plunging neckline. Layers of pleated ivory fabric cascaded from the waist, creating a tutu-like effect, while a sleek white column skirt completed the eye-catching design.

To enhance her look, Copeland accessorized with a remarkable emerald-cut diamond cocktail ring, delicate earrings, and styled her hair in a sleek ballerina bun. Her makeup was understated, featuring bold brows paired with soft touches of pink blush.
Tonight, Copeland is expected to perform as part of a tribute to the film Sinners, which has garnered significant attention this awards season. The film’s soundtrack includes "I Lied to You," performed by Miles Caton and Raphael Saadiq, a nominee for Best Original Song. Additional Grammy-winning artists, including Brittany Howard and Shaboozey, are also scheduled to take the stage.

Sinners has made history at this year’s Oscars, setting a record with 16 nominations including Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and a nod for Michael B. Jordan as Best Actor.
In 2024, Copeland reflected on her evolving fashion sense, stating, "I feel like I’ve had so many inspirations and rebirths of what I feel confident in. After becoming a mother, I feel like I dress a little more conservatively, but I still like to have a little bit of a funkiness to it."
Copeland and her husband Olu Evans welcomed their son Jackson in 2022, after tying the knot in 2016.
