Nancy Glass is Expanding Her True-Crime Documentaries with Three New Podcasts
Nancy Glass Expands Footprint with Successful Podcast Venture
Nancy Glass, head of Glass Entertainment Group and producer of the Netflix documentary Bitconned, has successfully launched a podcast business since its inception in 2021. Over this period, Glass has developed a dozen audio series, several of which have been transformed into true-crime television series.
Notable titles such as Betrayal, Burden of Guilt, and Curse of America’s Next Top Model have all garnered attention in the docuseries format. Betrayal, which has released five podcast seasons, explores intricate and troubling stories, including Jenifer Faison’s harrowing experience with her husband Spencer Herron, a respected educator later exposed as a sexual predator. Subsequent seasons delve into the struggles of Ashley Lytton seeking justice against a local predator and Stacey Rutherford, whose discovery of her husband Dr. Justin Rutherford’s dark secrets dramatically alters her perception of their life together.
In collaboration with ABC News Studios, Glass has adapted three Betrayal series into television docuseries: Betrayal: The Perfect Husband, Betrayal: A Father’s Secret, and Betrayal: Under His Eye.
Paramount+ recently developed a three-part series from Glass and See It Now Studios based on Burden of Guilt, which follows a woman’s quest to uncover the truth behind her baby brother’s tragic death. Meanwhile, E! converted Curse of America’s Next Top Model into Dirty Rotten Scandals: America’s Next Top Model, a critical examination of the show hosted by Tyra Banks.
Looking ahead, Glass is pitching new projects to streaming platforms, including Love Trapped, The Crimes of Margo Freshwater, and a second season of Burden of Guilt.
Love Trapped, which launched last month, stars Clayton Echard from The Bachelorette and The Bachelor, and details his experience with a fabricated paternity situation. Conversely, The Crimes of Margo Freshwater recounts the story of a young woman entangled in a crime spree that led to her 99-year prison sentence and her subsequent escape.
Glass Podcasts has achieved substantial success, with over 150 million downloads across its 12 series in the past five years, frequently maintaining long-standing positions on Apple’s podcast charts.
Reflecting on the origins of her podcast division, Glass noted, “I went into our business office and asked if anyone wanted to work with me on a podcast. That wasn’t a random act; our business office has always been full of creative thinkers, and I wanted people who would not be hung up on the visual.”
Now, key figures like Gunning, host of Betrayal, and Fetterman, head of podcast strategy, play instrumental roles in developing the series that resonate with audiences. Glass expressed confidence in her initiative: “I know that was risky, but something told me it would work. Ben, Andrea, and I spend a great deal of time thinking about the stories that resonate with us and how to tell them in the most compelling way possible.”
