Miranda McWhorter Shares Her Relationship with Shinia Powell After Her Time with Dakota Mortensen
Tensions Emerge on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
In the latest season of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, star Miranda McWhorter addressed her complicated friendship with Shinia Powell, following revelations that Powell had been intimate with Dakota Mortensen, the ex-partner of Taylor Frankie Paul.
Speaking exclusively to Us Weekly, Miranda, 27, reflected on the fallout, emphasizing her concerns about Powell’s choices. “I think the Taylor and Dakota of it all was definitely a contributing factor,” she explained. “I was very vocal about how pursuing that relationship would affect her and me. It felt like it was just blatantly disregarded on multiple occasions.”
Miranda noted that while she understood Taylor’s frustration regarding the situation, other developments led to her decision to support Taylor. “As things continued to play out, I think other things unfolded, and it just made that decision easier,” she remarked.
Despite not disclosing further specifics about her estrangement from Shinia, Miranda indicated that her decision to stand with Taylor goes deeper than what will be portrayed in the season. “But we’ll see that play out more,” she teased, adding that she now considers Taylor a friend.
Tensions escalated in season 4 when the group learned about Shinia and Dakota’s involvement, exacerbating the existing drama surrounding Dakota’s on-again, off-again relationship with Taylor. Taylor expressed her frustration with Miranda during a call, issuing what seemed like an ultimatum about their friendships. “If I hear she’s besties with her, I’m cutting you too,” Taylor stated. “Anyone defending her is no friend of mine ever again.”
Emotional fallout followed the call, with Miranda acknowledging her struggle. When asked if she felt forced to choose sides, she candidly admitted, “Yeah. … It’s just, Shinia has been a better friend to me than Taylor ever has.” She added that Taylor’s ultimatum frustrated her, remarking, “I’m your friend, not your partner or your child. I’m pretty sure that Taylor is not going to like my decision from where I’m standing right now.”
As viewers anticipate the evolving dynamics, The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives continues to serve as a platform for unfolding personal narratives within the group. The season is currently available for streaming.
