Celebrate Lowriders with the New USPS ‘Lowrider Forever’ Stamp Collection
USPS Unveils Lowrider Forever Stamps
The United States Postal Service (USPS) is set to launch a vibrant collection of Forever stamps this Friday, featuring the iconic lowrider cars that hold a special place in American culture.
The “Lowrider Forever” stamps display photographs of five stunning lowrider models, each with its own distinct name:
- Let the Good Times Roll/Soy Como Soy: A blue 1946 Chevrolet Fleetline
- Eight Figures: A blue 1958 Chevrolet Impala
- El Rey: A red 1963 Chevrolet Impala
- The Golden Rose: An orange 1964 Chevrolet Impala
- Pocket Change: A green 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
Art director Antonio Alcalá designed the stamps using photographs by Humberto “Beto” Mendoza and Philip Gordon, while Danny Alvarado incorporated pinstriping into the designs. According to the USPS, these stamps celebrate lowriders that are “customized not just to hop, bounce, and glide over the road surface, but also richly adorned with dazzling paint jobs and luxurious interiors.”
Each stamp, priced at 78 cents and sold in sheets of 15 for a total of $11.70, will initially be issued in San Diego but will be available nationwide on Friday. The commemorative series honors the lowrider culture deeply rooted in the working-class Mexican American and Chicano communities throughout the American Southwest.
In conjunction with the stamp release, NBC Los Angeles is scheduled to interview two owners of the featured lowriders—The Golden Rose and El Rey—on Thursday, shedding light on the significance of these vehicles in contemporary culture.
