New Trailer for ‘Disclosure Day’: Josh O’Connor and Emily Blunt Navigate a Life-Changing Secret in Spielberg’s Sci-Fi Drama
Universal Pictures Releases Official Trailer for Disclosure Day
Universal Pictures unveiled the official trailer for Disclosure Day on Thursday, a highly anticipated sci-fi thriller directed by Steven Spielberg. This film marks Spielberg’s return to a genre that has previously produced classics like Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T.
The trailer features an ensemble cast including Josh O’Connor, Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson, offering a revealing glimpse into the storyline based on a script by David Koepp. O’Connor plays a character who unearths long-hidden government secrets regarding the existence of extraterrestrial beings, hinting at events like the Roswell incident. Blunt’s portrayal of a meteorologist takes a surreal turn when she inexplicably begins to speak in tongues on live television.
Central to the plot is O’Connor’s character’s intent to become a whistleblower and share those secrets, an action that Firth’s character aims to thwart. “That truth will upend all established order across the entire world,” Firth warns O’Connor. “If you do this, there’s no undoing it.”
The narrative sets the stage for a quintessential Spielbergian conflict between those seeking to reveal the truth and those attempting to suppress it. Disclosure Day is slated for release in theaters on June 12.
The film’s logline poses a thought-provoking question: "If you found out we weren’t alone, if someone showed you, proved it to you, would that frighten you?" It suggests that this summer, the truth belongs to seven billion people as they approach… Disclosure Day.
This project serves as Spielberg’s follow-up to The Fabelmans, a semi-autobiographical drama that received seven Academy Award nominations. Besides directing and producing, Spielberg collaborated with longtime partner Koepp, who has worked with him on several past projects, including Jurassic Park.
As anticipation builds for Disclosure Day, the first teaser trailer was released in December, highlighting Blunt’s character in a gripping situation, indicative of the film’s eerie themes.
With the trailer now available, fans are eager to see how Spielberg reinterprets classic elements of the genre.
