Kawhi Leonard’s 45 Points Lead the Clippers to a 153-Point Victory and a Winning Record
Kawhi Leonard delivered an impressive performance, scoring 45 points as the Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 153-128 on Wednesday night. This victory marked the Clippers’ third consecutive win and their sixth in seven games, pushing their record above the .500 mark with a standing of 33-32 in the Western Conference.
After starting the season with a challenging 6-21 record, the Clippers’ recent success has propelled them to eighth place in the conference. Wednesday’s game was notable, as it represented the team’s highest points total of the season following a big win against New York earlier in the week, kicking off a five-game homestand.
Leonard’s shooting was remarkable, as he connected on 15 of 20 attempts from the field, including six of nine from three-point range, and converted nine of ten free throws. The Clippers collectively shot 51.4% from beyond the arc, making 19 of their 37 three-point attempts. Supporting Leonard, Bennedict Mathurin contributed 22 points while Darius Garland added 21, including five three-pointers.
The Timberwolves, led by Anthony Edwards with 36 points and Naz Reid with 18, struggled as they fell to sixth place in the tight Western Conference race. Despite the setback, they remain only a half-game behind the third-place Lakers. Minnesota is now facing a three-game losing streak after an earlier five-game winning run and recently lost to the Lakers, beginning a challenging four-game road trip.
Leonard set the tone early, scoring 18 points in the first quarter to help the Clippers establish a 38-27 lead. He finished the first half with 28 points, leading the Clippers to a 74-65 advantage. By the end of the third quarter, he had tallied 39 points, and the team maintained their momentum, outscoring the Timberwolves 44-30 in the final quarter.
