Bosch: Start of Watch Welcomes New Cast Members Azita Ghanizada, William Fichtner, and Kathleen Wilhoite
EXCLUSIVE: Actors Azita Ghanizada (Suits LA, The United States of Al), William Fichtner (Armageddon, Mom), and Kathleen Wilhoite (Murdaugh Murders, Road House) are set to join the cast of the upcoming MGM+ series Bosch: Start of Watch, a prequel that delves deeper into the Bosch Universe.
Based on Michael Connelly’s acclaimed book series, Bosch: Start of Watch is set against the backdrop of 1991 Los Angeles. The series follows a 26-year-old Harry Bosch (Cameron Monaghan) during his formative days as a rookie cop. At a time when the city grapples with racial tensions, gang violence, and an fractured LAPD, Bosch faces routine calls and escalating unrest. He becomes embroiled in a high-profile heist and a complex web of criminal corruption, challenging his loyalty to the badge and foreshadowing his future as a detective guided by the principle, “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”
Watch on Deadline
Ghanizada will portray Stacy, an ambitious lawyer captivated by the allure of criminal power. Her budding relationship with master thief Cory Harbor draws her further into a perilous world that blurs the line between professional ambition and personal risk.
Fichtner will play Calhern, a distinguished defense attorney turned influential figure in L.A.’s criminal underbelly.
Wilhoite takes on the role of Helen, Bosch’s devoted foster mother, who grapples with the profound loss of her husband.
The cast also includes Omari Hardwick as Eli Bridges, Bosch’s training officer; Ariana Guerra as Rosa, a rookie LAPD officer; and JD Pardo as Cory, a professional thief.
While Start of Watch draws inspiration from Connelly’s broader Bosch universe, it does not directly adapt any existing material, as there are no prequels in the original series. The narrative weaves together elements from Harry’s early years, with Connelly describing this exploration as “uncharted character territory.”
Produced by Fabel Entertainment, the series is co-created and executive produced by Bosch: Legacy co-developer Tom Bernardo and co-executive producer Brian Anthony, with Bernardo also serving as showrunner. Other executive producers include Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ, while Theresa Snider co-executive produces for Hieronymus Pictures. Casting is overseen by Seth Yanklewitz.
Ghanizada is represented by Buchwald, Atlas Artists, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Fichtner is represented by Innovative Artist Entertainment, Thruline, and Principal Entertainment LA, while Wilhoite is repped by AKA Talent Agency.
