Rosamund Pike Reflects on Heartbreaking Split from Joe Wright After Their Deep Love Story
Rosamund Pike Reflects on Devastating Split from Joe Wright
In a recent podcast interview, actress Rosamund Pike discussed her emotional journey following her 2008 breakup with director Joe Wright, describing the experience as "devastating," yet "far less spectacular" than the public narrative suggested at the time.
Pike, known for her role in Gone Girl, recounted her relationship with Wright, which began on the set of Pride & Prejudice in 2005. At the time of their split, the couple had reportedly made plans for a "lovely" wedding in Italy, underscoring the abruptness of their separation.
"We were very, very in love," Pike recalled during her conversation on Elizabeth Day’s "How to Fail" podcast. “We had massive masses of adventures. We were very wild, and then it all fell apart.”
Pike emphasized the public speculation surrounding their breakup, stating, "When it falls apart, everybody thinks, ‘Oh, my God, what is it?’ Must be an affair, polygamy, drug scandal." Such assumptions, she noted, added to the devastation. "It’s utterly devastating, but it’s not devastating in any of the ways that people imagine,” she added.
Ultimately, Pike found herself loving someone who no longer reciprocated those feelings. While acknowledging the "awful" feelings that accompanied the end of their relationship, she expressed a newfound sense of freedom. "There are so many other templates of what life can look like for a woman," she stated. "There are so many other ways that love can look like."
Since their split, Pike has been in a relationship with businessman Robie Uniacke, and the couple shares two children. Meanwhile, Wright has also moved on; he and actress Haley Bennett welcomed their daughter, Virginia, in 2018.
