Paris Jackson Critiques Executors of Michael Jackson’s Estate Over Unapproved Payments and Gifts
Paris Jackson, the daughter of the late Michael Jackson, is calling for a change in the management of her father’s estate, expressing her frustration with the current co-executors, John Branca and John McClain.
In a pointed pre-hearing brief filed last week, Jackson criticized Branca’s testimony, likening it to the infamous Colonel Jessup from *A Few Good Men*. “Mr. Branca testified that he had neither the time nor the inclination to explain himself to his beneficiaries, and ‘would rather that you just said ‘thank you’ and went on your way,’” the brief states.
This brief is set against the backdrop of a pivotal hearing scheduled for Wednesday morning in Century City. Retired Judge Mitchell Beckloff, who has presided over the case since Michael Jackson’s death in 2009, will oversee the proceedings, which are expected to begin at 9 a.m. PT. Although the hearing may be contentious, no ruling is anticipated on that day.
Paris Jackson is expected to attend the hearing, with her possible testimony aligning with the issues raised in the recent court filing. The document argues that Branca’s handling of estate finances, including allegations of bonus payments and gifts to colleagues, reflects a loss of focus on his fiduciary duties. “Mr. Branca has lost sight of his fiduciary obligations,” the 15-page filing asserts, calling for a change in management.
Nearly 17 years after Michael Jackson’s death, legal matters regarding his estate remain unresolved. The ongoing entanglement in probate court persists, aside from Branca and McClain’s confirmed roles as co-executors.
Jackson’s legacy has navigated significant challenges, and there are signs that Paris, now 27, and her adult brothers, Prince and Bigi, are poised to assert more control over the family’s affairs. This marks a stark contrast to the family’s situation in 2009, when Michael Jackson passed away deeply in debt.
The ongoing dispute centers on alleged mismanagement, with claims of over $600,000 in unaccounted payments and gifts. These financial disagreements highlight a deeper tension between Paris Jackson and Branca, who has been portrayed unfavorably in recent media portrayals related to Jackson’s legacy.
Despite the estate’s previous legal victories against Paris Jackson, including an anti-SLAPP ruling in favor of Branca, she continues to challenge the estate’s management. In a recent filing, attorneys for Branca and McClain reiterated their position, asserting that Jackson’s attempts to seek relief through the court are unnecessary, given the Executors’ standing.
Amidst the legal conflict, the Jackson family remains largely divided in their approaches to public commentary. Paris Jackson’s recent statements suggest a desire for greater transparency and accountability from the estate, particularly regarding its financial decisions. “I just prefer honesty over sales and monetary gain,” she stated in reference to the recent biopic about her father.
As this legal saga unfolds, it remains to be seen whether the Jackson family will reclaim control over their father’s name and legacy, a topic that is increasingly pertinent with the significant financial stakes involved.
