Matt Reeves Is Working on a Film About the Historic Meeting Between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin
6th & Idaho Develops Film on Churchill-Stalin Summit
6th & Idaho, the production company established by director Matt Reeves of The Batman, is currently in the development stages of a feature film focused on the pivotal 1942 summit between Winston Churchill and Joseph Stalin.
The upcoming film will explore the historic Moscow meeting—an event deemed crucial for the Allied victory in World War II just three years later. The script is penned by historian and screenwriter Simon Sebag Montefiore, known for his extensive work on Stalin’s life.
Montefiore has previously authored the Young Stalin biopic, set to star Cosmo Jarvis, and is recognized for his two notable books on Stalin as well as a work on the Romanov dynasty. His literary expertise spans three novels centered around 20th-century Russia.
In reflecting on the project, Montefiore stated, “This movie is the culmination of a lifelong interest in Stalin and the script tells the inside story of his encounter with Churchill over just a few days, during which time the fate of the entire world hangs by a thread.”
He emphasized the significance of the two leaders, saying, “We talk today about strong leaders, who have complete command. In Stalin and Churchill you have two of the very strongest leaders in history, who come together as the world is being torn apart. It is a portrait of two men and a portrait of power.”
Lynn Harris, a former Warner Bros. studio executive and Reeves’ producing partner at 6th & Idaho, also expressed enthusiasm for the project, noting, “This is a wonderful story and a wonderful script.”
