Why Uber and Lyft Rates to LAX Might Go Up: What You Need to Know
Rideshare Fees at LAX May See Significant Increase
LOS ANGELES – Rideshare users traveling to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) could face higher costs soon due to a proposed increase in fees. The LA Board of Airport Commissioners is set to discuss these potential changes at an upcoming meeting.
Under the proposal, a $6 base access fee would be instituted for rideshare companies like Uber and Lyft entering the airport, along with another $6 fee for curbside pickups and drop-offs. This would result in a total fee of $12 per trip, representing a 140% increase.
Officials argue that the fee hike is necessary to alleviate congestion at the airport and to fund critical upgrades, including the long-awaited Automated People Mover—an extensive transit improvement project designed to enhance airport accessibility.
Key Details of the Proposal:
- $6 base access fee for commercial vehicles entering LAX
- $6 curbside pickup or drop-off fee
- Total of $12 per trip under the proposed changes
If approved, these new fees would apply to rideshare services operating within the airport grounds. The implications of these measures could be significant for travelers, who may need to adjust their budgets for transportation to and from the airport.
