Sony Pictures and Olive Bridge Adapt Lynn Painter’s Bestselling Novel Fake Skating
Sony Pictures, in collaboration with Olive Bridge, is set to adapt Fake Skating, the New York Times bestselling novel by Lynn Painter. This marks the first screen adaptation of Painter’s work, and the announcement was made via her social media channels.
The novel tells a charming story of childhood sweethearts who rekindle their relationship in their hockey-centric hometown after feigning a romantic romance. Will Gluck, along with producers Jacqueline Monetta and Madison Jones, is at the helm of this project, with Painter onboard as an executive producer.
Since its release in September 2025, Fake Skating has gained remarkable popularity, winning the 2025 Goodreads Choice Award. With over 200,000 copies in print, it has consistently appeared on the New York Times YA Hardcover Bestseller list, achieving the top spot for ten weeks. The novel has been translated into 16 languages, expanding its reach to a global audience.
Gluck, known for his successful direction of Sony’s Anyone But You, which grossed over $220 million globally, has made a significant impact in the romantic comedy genre. Previous works include Friends With Benefits and Easy A, and he is set to release One Night Only in August 2026.
