Angelina Jolie’s Couture Line Joins Vertical Brand Family
Vertical Acquires North American Rights to “Couture,” Starring Angelina Jolie
Vertical has secured North American rights to “Couture,” a fashion-centric drama featuring Angelina Jolie and Louis Garrel, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2025. The film is slated for theatrical release later this year.
Directed by César-nominated Alice Winocour, known for her works “Paris Memories” and “Proxima,” “Couture” unfolds during the bustling Paris Fashion Week. The narrative weaves together the lives of three women: Maxine (Jolie), a filmmaker confronted with a breast cancer diagnosis who embarks on a love story with a familiar collaborator (Garrel); Ada (newcomer Anyier Anei), an aspiring model fleeing a predetermined path in South Sudan; and Angèle (Ella Rumpf), a makeup artist laboring in the shadows of the fashion scene. Through their intersecting journeys, the film highlights the resilience inherent in public performance and honors the solidarity shared among women from diverse professions and backgrounds.
“Couture is a film about women’s bodies. It tells women who bear scars that we can be stronger by sharing our wounds,” Winocour commented. “There is also something deeply political in telling the story of a collective rather than an individual destiny. I wanted to restore depth and complexity to women across generations and backgrounds, beyond the superficial images we’re so often given. I’m grateful to Vertical for championing the film and for helping these women’s stories resonate across cultures and borders.”
Peter Jarowey, Partner at Vertical, expressed his admiration for Jolie’s performance, stating, “Angelina’s role in Couture is delivered with quiet intensity that is both intimate and deeply personal. This is brave filmmaking at its finest; Vertical is proud to be releasing another feature from Alice, following Proxima’s debut in 2020.”
“Couture” also features performances from Garance Marillier, Finnegan Oldfield, and Vincent Lindon. The film was produced by Charles Gillibert of CG Cinéma, Zhang Xin of Closer Media, William Horberg, and Jolie, with executive production by Bob Xu, Benjamin Hess, and Luc Bricault. The acquisition was negotiated by Jarowey and Tony Piantedosi on behalf of Vertical, and by UTA Independent Film Group for the filmmakers.
