Miss Scarlet: A Heartfelt Farewell After Seven Seasons on Masterpiece
The acclaimed period mystery series Miss Scarlet has officially been renewed for a seventh and final season by PBS’s Masterpiece. Filming is currently taking place in Serbia, encompassing six concluding episodes that aim to wrap up the story of Eliza Scarlet, Victorian London’s pioneering female private detective.
Creator and writer Rachael New expressed her gratitude and pride in the series, stating, “Making Miss Scarlet has been the greatest joy of my professional career. Every stage of this beautiful show — from the writing, filming, editing, and finally it reaching the screen — has taken a whole village of exceptionally talented people. From the wonderful executive team who first saw the potential in this story to my brilliant writing partner Ben Edwards, the Belgrade production team, the Dublin post team, and not least to our remarkable cast led by the magnificent Kate Phillips, it has been a collaborative and beautiful experience.”
Formerly titled Miss Scarlet and the Duke, the series features a talented cast including Kate Phillips, Tom Durant-Pritchard, Paul Bazely, Tim Chipping, Evan McCabe, Felix Scott, Cordelia Bugeja, and Ansu Kabia.
The story follows Eliza, inspired by her father’s work as a private eye, as she has spent the past six seasons shattering the glass ceiling while navigating numerous mysteries. Throughout her journey, she has received assistance from various characters, including her childhood friend William “The Duke” Wellington and love interest Inspector Alexander Blake, among others.
In this final season, Eliza Scarlet encounters love that brings both joy and new challenges. As the stakes rise in her professional and personal life, she reunites with familiar figures and faces a formidable new crime boss in town, complicating her world even further. Meanwhile, Blake’s recent promotion introduces unexpected tensions, forcing him to deal with a new boss who shares a complex history with him.
“What a journey this has been,” said Phillips. “Miss Scarlet has been one of the greatest joys of my career, and I will forever be grateful to Rachael New for creating such a witty, sharp, and delightful character in Eliza. It’s been a privilege to work on a show crafted with so much love and dedication. As we prepare to say goodbye, I’m proud of what we’ve achieved and the memories we’ve made.”
Miss Scarlet is co-created by New and written by New and Ben Edwards. The production team includes executive producers Harvey Myman, Susanne Simpson, Jin Ishimoto, Patrick Irwin, and Patty Lenahan Ishimoto. Jim Duggan serves as the Irish co-producer, while Anđelija Vlaisavljević is the Serbian co-producer. The Senior Series Producer for Masterpiece is Erin Delaney, and the director for Season 7 is Ivan Zivkovic. The show is produced in association with PBS and Other Mans Shoes.
