Emma Roberts Will Star in Peacock’s New TV Version of Bride Wars
Peacock is developing a new television series inspired by the 2009 film Bride Wars, with Emma Roberts set to star and executive produce through her production company, Belletrist. New Regency will serve as the lead studio for the project, alongside co-studios 20th Television and UCP. Multi-Emmy Award winner Sascha Rothchild, known for her work on GLOW and XO, Kitty, will write and executive produce the series.
Set in the picturesque backdrop of North Carolina, the television adaptation follows a big-city wedding planner, played by Roberts, who arrives in a small town, igniting a rivalry with a local planner. As both women vie to organize the same wedding, their competition quickly escalates into a broader conflict involving friendship, community, and romantic love.
The original Bride Wars featured Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway as best friends Liv and Emma, whose weddings inadvertently coincide on the same date and at the same venue—The Plaza Hotel in New York City. The film portrays the ensuing drama as the two women grapple with their friendship and the sacrifices required to uphold it.

Rothchild is presently adapting Young Rich Widows for Amazon, and her debut novel, Blood Sugar, has been recognized as a New York Times Best Book in both 2021 and 2022. She is represented by Gersh and Underground Management.
Roberts is currently in production on the film Hal, in which she stars alongside Alexander Ludwig. Additionally, she serves as an executive producer on the Hulu series Tell Me Lies, which recently concluded its three-season run. Roberts is represented by Sweeney Entertainment and lawyer JR McGuiness.
