City Section Updates
In the City Section semifinals held at Southwest College, the boys’ Open Division showcased intense competition. The second-seeded Cleveland team triumphed over sixth-seeded Fairfax with a score of 68-62 in overtime. Top-seeded Palisades secured a convincing 71-56 victory against fifth-seeded San Pedro. The finals are scheduled for February 27 at 8 p.m. at Southwest College.
On the girls’ side, fierce battles unfolded at Pasadena City College. In the Open Division, second-seeded Birmingham dominated third-seeded LA Hamilton, winning 73-28. Meanwhile, top-seeded Westchester clinched a decisive 79-45 win against fifth-seeded Venice. The girls’ finals will take place on February 28 at 6 p.m. at Pasadena City College.
Additional results from Southwest College include the following in Division I: top-seeded El Camino Real narrowly defeated fourth-seeded Eagle Rock 37-36, and the second-seeded Granada Hills Kennedy team overcame third-seeded San Pedro 63-52. At Pasadena City College, Division II saw second-seeded North Hollywood beat third-seeded Santee 56-31, while the top-seeded Harbor Teacher team bested fifth-seeded West Adams 49-29.
In Division III, fourth-seeded LA Marshall faced top-seeded Washington Prep, while second-seeded Gardena won against third-seeded San Fernando 41-25. Division IV results featured twelfth-seeded Wilmington Banning’s surprising 39-15 win over top-seeded Maywood CES, and eleventh-seeded Bravo defeating tenth-seeded Panorama 51-28. Division V results remain pending for the matchup of twentieth-seeded Sotomayor against ninth-seeded Los Angeles and a notable victory by second-seeded Legacy over third-seeded Vaughn, 43-33. The finals for Divisions IV and V are to be determined.
Southern Section Highlights
In the Southern Section, the girls’ quarterfinals in the Open Division saw Ontario Christian overpower Fairmont Prep 114-50, Sage Hill narrowly defeating Oak Park 59-56, Etiwanda winning against Rancho Christian 87-36, and Sierra Canyon dominating Mater Dei 79-38. Semifinals will take place on Tuesday, with the finals scheduled for February 28 at 8 p.m. at Toyota Arena.
In state play-in games, JSerra edged out Redondo Union 50-43, while Corona Centennial claimed a 66-55 victory over Lakewood St. Joseph.
The semifinals also produced exciting results across divisions:
- Division 1: Valencia over Windward 59-46, La Salle 48, and Moreno Valley 40.
- Division 2: Saugus 48, Camarillo 46, and Crescenta Valley just narrowly won against Rosary Academy 45-44.
- Division 3: Murrieta Valley claimed a close victory over Oxnard 59-56, with St. Margaret’s defeating Leuzinger 54-50.
- Division 4: La Canada emerged victorious over Anaheim Canyon 47-33, while El Dorado defeated Marina 44-34.
- Division 5: Bishop Diego won against Godinez 48-42, and Burbank Burroughs took down Oakwood 44-35.
- Division 6: Savanna beat San Jacinto 52-43, and Warren edged Hillcrest 33-32.
- Division 7: Laguna Hills won a close game against Patriot 53-50, while La Palma Kennedy defeated Ridgecrest Burroughs 49-32.
- Division 8: Orange triumphed 49-36 over University Prep, with Schurr defeating Chadwick 44-32.
- Division 9: Desert Hot Springs won 47-35, and Sierra Vista defeated La Sierra 62-34.
The finals for the Southern Section are expected to be held on February 27 or 28.
