Eric Dane’s Friend Supports GoFundMe as Sam Levinson Contributes $27K
Following the recent passing of actor Eric Dane, a GoFundMe campaign has been initiated by his friends to support his daughters, sparking a mix of appreciation and criticism.
Mike McGuiness, a close friend of the late Euphoria star, explained the motivation behind the crowdfunding effort, sharing poignant memories from a recent trip they took to Tokyo before Dane’s death.
“Covid and ALS did a number on his work life and he sadly couldn’t leave his family with the resources he had hoped,” McGuiness stated in a social media post. “A GoFundMe is being made and I will post it on my story for anyone able to help. Love the ones you’ve got.”
Reflecting on their longstanding friendship, McGuiness described the profound impact of Dane’s battle with ALS. “My friend of almost two decades just left us after a brutal battle with ALS. I’m the positive spin guy and can come up with something hopeful in most any situation. This one broke me,” he said. “Eric did. Candidly, I didn’t know he had it in him.”
The GoFundMe campaign aims to raise $250,000, having already gathered over $187,000 as of Saturday morning. Notable donors include Sam Levinson, Alyssa Milano, and Randall Emmett, with Levinson and his wife, Ashley, contributing $27,000.
The campaign emphasizes that the funds will be used “to support his girls and their future needs.” The organizers expressed their gratitude, stating, “Any contribution, no matter the size, will help provide stability during this incredibly difficult time and in the future for Eric’s wonderful daughters. Thank you.”
Eric Dane, renowned for his roles in Euphoria and Grey’s Anatomy, passed away on Thursday. His family confirmed his death followed his announcement of an ALS diagnosis last April. Dane is survived by his actress wife, Rebecca Gayheart, and their two daughters, Billie and Georgia.
