Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mike Flanagan Join Forces Again for ‘The Exorcist’
Chiwetel Ejiofor will reunite with acclaimed director Mike Flanagan for the latest installment of The Exorcist, following his involvement in Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck. The film also features Scarlett Johansson, Jacobi Jupe, and Diane Lane in its cast.
Produced by Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek, and Universal, the film is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2027. Filming is slated to commence in New York City soon.
This new entry in the franchise is not a sequel to the 2023 film The Exorcist: Believer, but rather an entirely fresh storyline penned by Flanagan. He will serve as both director and producer through his Red Room Pictures banner. Alexandra Magistro will join as an executive producer for Red Room Pictures, with David Robinson producing for Morgan Creek Entertainment. Jason Blum and Ryan Turek will take on the roles of producer and executive producer, respectively, for Blumhouse-Atomic Monster.
Ejiofor, an Oscar nominee for Best Actor for his role in 12 Years a Slave, has received a BAFTA award and has appeared in notable films including Doctor Strange, The Martian, Children of Men, American Gangster, Inside Man, and Love Actually. His recent projects include Netflix’s The Old Guard 2, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, and Marvel and Sony’s Venom: The Last Dance. He will soon be featured in Paramount’s Children of Blood and Bone and A24’s The Backrooms. Ejiofor made his directorial debut with The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, which premiered on Netflix. His second directorial effort, Rob Peace, which he wrote, directed, and starred in, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and earned a NAACP Image Award nomination. His extensive contributions to stage and screen have garnered him an Olivier Award, as well as nominations for an Emmy and a Golden Globe, along with being named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to drama.
Ejiofor is represented by Markham, Froggatt and Irwin, Premier PR, and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman.
